Congratulations to the 2016 ‘GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care’ Award Recipients

Congratulations to all organizations who took the time to complete their submissions for this award. We are very pleased to publicly acknowledge the 18 recipients. In addition, 4 organizations earned the award “with distinction,” which recognizes an extraordinary commitment to the integration of Gentle Persuasive Approaches into organizational policy and processes, as reflected in their award submissions. Watch for it! Each month we will showcase 3 recipients in the Featured News Section of our website and across social media.

We thank every organization, coast-to-coast in Canada, who incorporates Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA®) in Dementia Care into their care settings. Together, we are working to support and protect Canada’s point-of-care providers and enhance the day-to-day patient-centred approach to care they provide. AGE is thrilled to have each and every one of you as a partner in our mission to enhance the care of older adults.

AGE Presents at 2017 Canadian Frailty Network (CFN) National Conference: Managing Behaviours Associated with Dementia. Effects of an Educational Intervention

An increasing number of people with dementia are presenting to Emergency Departments with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). These environments can trigger or intensify BPSD, yet not all ED staff are trained to manage BPSD. AGE presented our findings from our GEM Nurse Study at the 2017 CFN Conference. Our findings show that GPA education and training bridged a knowledge gap and improved Emergency Department staff self-efficacy and competence when responding to dementia and BPSD.
