Spotlight on Elmsmere Villa. Winner of a GPA Leadership Excellence Award

AGE congratulates Elmsmere Villa in Ottawa Ontario, winner of a 2016 | 2017 GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care award. We recognize the Villa’s ongoing efforts at implementing and sustaining GPA’s person-centred care approach.

Small in size but big in heart, the Villa is home to 56 residents who are cared for by 34 staff and 4 volunteers. Spotlight on Edgewater Gardens LTC Home. Winner of a GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care Award

AGE congratulates Edgewater Gardens Long Term Care Home in the community of Dunville, Ontario, situated on the mouth of the Grand River. They are the latest 2016 | 2017 GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care award winner. We recognize their ongoing efforts at implementing Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) into everyday care, as reflected in their award submission.

Mary Cochrane, the in-house GPA Certified Coach at Edgewater Gardens has noticed an influx of residents with dementia. “Their range of needs and levels of care require specialized, compassionate and adaptive approaches, like GPA,” Mary Says.

Spotlight on REVERA | Columbia Forest Long-Term Care Home. Winner of a GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care Award

AGE congratulates REVERA | Columbia Forest Long-Term Care Home in the city of Waterloo, Ontario on their 2016 | 2017 GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care award. The award recognizes Columbia Forest’s ongoing commitment to the integration of Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) across organizational policies and processes and in practice, as reflected in their award submission.

“The philosophy at Columbia Forest is much the same as GPA and has been strongly influenced by GPA education,” says Kathy Grieco, RN, BSO Lead and in-house GPA Certified Coach at the home. Columbia Forest is home to 156 residents who are cared for by 130 staff, with 40 volunteers. Almost 80% of the residents have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, with responsive behaviours.

Responsive Behaviour: Meeting the Learning Needs of Inter-Professional Post-Secondary Healthcare Students.

Increasing numbers of people with dementia are presenting to healthcare settings with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Healthcare environments can trigger or intensify BPSD. Professional healthcare students are not consistently educated to interpret and manage PBSD.
