What is the preferred delivery model for GPA?
The preferred delivery model for GPA is via GPA Certified by Coaches who are trained by AGE. They are staff in small or large organizations specializing in dementia and/or health care who have an agreement with Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE) Inc. to facilitate Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) education sessions.
For healthcare students and volunteers, we recommend GPA eLearning, a 2.5 to 3-hour dementia care education session online.
1 | Find a GPA Certified Coach
Go here to find a coach in your organization.
Can’t find a coach within your organization? Email us info@ageinc.ca and we will help you in your search and talk to you about your options.
2 | If you have a GPA Certified Coach in your organization, talk to your supervisor about GPA Education.
Find out when your organization plans to hold its next GPA Basics session or Integrated GPA education.
If you do not have GPA Certified Coaches within your organization, speak to your Supervisor about training two in-house GPA Certified Coaches at one of our upcoming GPA Certified Coach Training Workshops (view calendar here). This would allow your organization to implement GPA organization-wide in a multi-disciplinary approach that promotes, enhances and sustains a culture of person-centred care. Here’s a great document that tells you and your supervisor everything your organization needs to know about training a GPA Certified Coach.
3 | Recharge your GPA knowledge, skills and confidence every year
For those who have completed a GPA Basics education session or Integrated GPA (iGPA), we recommend recharging your GPA skills, knowledge and confidence annually through GPA-Recharged (GPA-R).
GPA-Recharged sessions are site-specific, taught by an in-house GPA Certified Coach and not available within the community. They are made up of one two-hour session or two 1-hour sessions. Ask your supervisor about holding GPA Recharged
4 | GPA eLearning
For healthcare students and volunteers, we highly recommend GPA eLearning, a 2.5 to 3-hour dementia care education session online.
