Spotlight on Edgewater Gardens LTC Home. Winner of a GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care Award

AGE congratulates Edgewater Gardens Long Term Care Home in the community of Dunville, Ontario, situated on the mouth of the Grand River. They are the latest 2016 | 2017 GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care award winner. We recognize their ongoing efforts at implementing Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) into everyday care, as reflected in their award submission.

Mary Cochrane, the in-house GPA Certified Coach at Edgewater Gardens has noticed an influx of residents with dementia. “Their range of needs and levels of care require specialized, compassionate and adaptive approaches, like GPA,” Mary Says.

Read a few of the Edgewater stories that illustrate how GPA is being implemented into every day patient care — and how it’s making a difference in the lives of  residents and staff.

Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (GPA®)
GPA is a multi-disciplinary evidence-based dementia care curriculum that equips point-of-care providers and students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to apply a respectful, person-centred approach when interacting with older adults with dementia. To date, Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE), developer of GPA, has trained 3,074 GPA Certified Coaches who have gone on to deliver the program to more than 288,000+ healthcare providers and students in more than 1,700 Canadian organizations.

Together, we are enhancing the care of older Canadians. Thank you Edgewater Gardens for your belief in GPA’s person-centred model of care.
