Spotlight on Sienna Living’s Bloomington Cove Care Community. Winner of a GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care Award

AGE congratulates Sienna Living’s Bloomington Cove Care Community in York County, Ontario, on receiving a 2016 | 2017 GPA Leadership Excellence in Person-Centred Care award. This award recognizes their commitment to the integration of Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) across organizational policies and processes and in practice, as reflected in their award submission.

Bloomington Cove Care Community has chosen a resident-centred model of care, rather than a medical model. Every resident has Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and staff recognize that as the diseases progress, resident care needs will change. GPA is woven into the fabric of everyday life at Bloomington. Home to 112 residents, Bloomington Cove Care has a staff of 143 with 12 volunteers. Learn more

Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (GPA®)
GPA is a multi-disciplinary evidence-based dementia care curriculum that equips health care providers, students and volunteers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to apply a respectful, person-centred approach when interacting with older adults with dementia. To date, Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE), the developer of GPA, has trained 3,074 GPA Certified Coaches who have gone on to deliver the program to more than 288,000+ healthcare providers and students in more than 1,700 Canadian organizations. Together, we are enhancing the care of older Canadians. Thank you Sienna Living and the team at Bloomington Cove Care Community for your ongoing commitment to GPA’s person-centred care model.
